As a counselor, Amanda Thomas is looking forward to the opportunity to be a nonjudgmental, welcoming, and warm-hearted figure for her clients. Amanda works from an eclectic approach with an emphasis on person-centered counseling. As such, she believes that every person that enters her office has a different story and it is important to figure out what will work best for them. If you can create a therapeutic environment based on genuineness, unconditional positive regard, and empathic listening it will be a great start to building trust and a positive therapeutic relationship.
Even though Amanda has experience working with diverse populations, her areas of professional interest include career/school assistance, family conflicts, life transitions, grief, self-injury, low self-esteem, coping with day to day struggles, and disorders related to anxiety and depression.
In addition to gaining experience as an intern at Wentworth, Amanda has worked at an inpatient psychiatric hospital with a focus on mental health and addiction as a behavioral health associate. During that time she helped children, adolescents, and adults with an array of mental health disorders. Amanda also spent semesters working with high school students who struggled academically and emotionally and then co-facilitated a grief and loss group for senior citizens.
Currently, Amanda works with HAP, Blue Care Network, Atena, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. She also accepts private pay clients and clients who require a sliding scale fee.
