Jolene Gillies Ph. D. candidate, LMSW
Supervised by Lawrence T. Wentworth, PhD, LP.
Jolene Gillies is a Ph. D. candidate in counseling psychology from Walden University.
She has been fully certified/ licensed as a social worker at the Masters level since 1992.
Jolene has worked with adults, children, teens, and families who were experiencing
varied mental health and/or substance abuse problems.

Jolene has developed a specialty of working with LGBT issues.  She has a special
affinity with transgender people.  Although she has a specialty Jolene works well with any
people who are experiencing distress in their life because of relational issues or a problem that
does not seem to have a solution.  Jolene’s approach to therapy is feminist, strengths based,
and client centered.  Feminist simply means that she will attempt to understand how the many
aspects of your life, physical, spiritual, mental, social, and your roles, influence you and the
issues you bring to therapy.  Strengths based means she will spend enough time to understand
your problem but she will not spend valuable time in therapy going over and over the problem.
Instead, she will focus more on the solutions because in her opinion you solve your problems
not by repeating stories of failure attempting to discover what you did wrong but by reviewing
what you are doing or were doing right and learning to do more of it or doing it a little
differently.  Client centered means that Jolene will check with you every session to see how
therapy is going for you; is she talking about what you need to talk about and are you feeling
comfortable with her therapy style.  If not she will work together with you to make any
corrections needed.
