Joel graduated from Oakland University in 2009 with a Master of Art’s degree in
Professional Counseling. He is a current doctoral student in Oakland’s Counseling Ph. D.
program. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Michigan and also a
Nationally Board Certified Counselor.
Joel has extensive experience counseling individuals and groups with a large variety of
concerns. He has received specialized training and experience in working with children,
adolescents, & young adults, anxiety, depression, transitional difficulties, and issues related to
high functioning.
Joel utilizes an integrated approach combining aspects of Narrative, Existential, and Humanistic
therapies. His work celebrates individual differences and worldviews, and focuses on
understanding how personal, familial, and societal expectations can contribute to our
functioning, problems, and positive change.
In addition to counseling at Wentworth & Associates, Joel is very involved in other areas of the
Counseling professional community. He works as an educator and supervisor for Oakland
University students enrolled in the Master’s of Counseling program, and is a frequent presenter
at national and regional counseling conferences. He is a member of the American Counseling
Association, Association for Specialists in Group Work, Association for Counselor Education
and Supervision, and the Society for the Study of Emerging Adulthood.
